We thought we'd show you what's been happening at our house lately. Of course, you all know we are trying to prepare to go on a mission & are entering the MTC on Aug. 8. But there have been plans in the works to add a deck extension on to the back of our home. Because of having to get HOA approval AND having to get the City approval AND all the crazy rain we've had, things got pushed back & we had to start construction quite late. Here is a pic of the BEFORE:

Our wonderful contractor, who is also in our ward, assured us it would be done & we'd get to sit out on it BEFORE we left for our mission. So, we plunged ahead! We wanted to add 8 more feet to both the top & bottom decks & patios, but we also wanted it to look like it had always been a part of the house, not just an addition. (no raw wood beams to see when you look up, etc.) And we wanted to add a stairs to give us access to the bottom patio without going all the way through the house. So, first came the excavators.

Of course, every job has a few little snags & ours was no exception. The excavators hit the main pipe for the pressurized irrigation in our HOA & it blew sky high.

I took a long time to get that fixed... but finally they did. Then they poured the cement pad on the lower patio, and then started construction big time.

They constructed a new roof, pillars at the corners of the extensions, siding-like material that covers the ceilings of each level so you don't see up into the raw wood trusses, stuccoed & worked like demons.

Then they added the stacked stone to the bottoms of each pillar (to match the front of our home) and started fixing the landscaping. That involved many hours of trying to fix all the sprinklers as well as replace with new sod.

The rest of this week the last 2 things are going in: The wrought iron railings are around the top patio along with the wrought iron spiral staircase- but they need to finish the gate and side railings next to the opening of the staircase. Then the gutters go in and we're finished!!!

Here's hoping that within a few more days I can show you the completed project. It is amazing and we LOVE it! Come on over & try it out with us!
