Preparation Day - Second Day

Today we drove a little distance out of Quebec City and went to Montmorency Falls.It is a spectacular Falls... they call them "chutes" here. It is higher than Niagra Falls by almost 100 feet. This falls is 272 feet high. Of course, it's not nearly as wide as Niagra, but it is still pretty spectacular! We took the tram up the left side of the Falls. Up to the top where a visitor's center and old mansion restaurant are:Then began the hike over to the suspension bridge that spans the Falls:Here's the view from the top: When you cross the bridge you hike through a park area around to the other side of the falls and some stairs down. You can tell that it is getting close to fall here, the leaves are already starting to change. Uh, yeah... and THESE are the stairs down..... Of course, we kept saying...We may only be here once...we NEED to do this! So, we did! The view from the top of those stairs is pretty amazing too. You can see the falls and the suspension bridge and the falling water even makes a lovely rainbow at the bottom!Here's the proof we made it down all those stairs! We're standing in the spray from the falls.

It was quite a day! We loved the falls and all the beauty of God's creations! How blessed we are!

Next we drove over to an island called Ile d'Orleans. It is a quaint little island where they grow alot of fruits and vegetables. We ate at this restaurant:

and had our first taste of a Canadian classic - POUTINE- Poutine is a beloved dish around here. Essentially it is french fries, covered with beef gravy and cheese curds (that are from a cheese similar to mozzarella).The poutine we ordered also had strips of chicken and peas in it. You can order the basic poutine anywhere, but some places add different things to it. I know what you're thinking.. that sounds DISGUSTING! But, believe me, it is wonderful! sort of a different twist on potatoes and gravy. They even sell Poutine sauce in a can at the grocery store. It is really good! We drove around the island (it is small) and saw wonderfully quaint homes and things like this:

We bought some wonderful apples at this marvelous fruit stand that had tons of fruit and vegetables grown on the island... of course, was I thinking? nope, I forgot to take a picture! We had a marvelous time and then headed back on our 3 hour drive to Montreal. It's going to be hard to top these Preparation Days!
